Port Tour

Tuesday the 29th May was a very special day for 22 of the junior members at FATS. Transnet very graciously opened their facilities for these guys to undertake a Port Tour.

A breakfast spread was laid out by Transnet and thoroughly enjoyed before , CRM specialist for the Transnet facilities and port operations delivered a very informative presentation. The planned new facilities at the site of the old Durban airport was also briefly touched on. The presentation was very informative and delivered in a very professional manner enabling these junior FATS employees to gain valuable insight into the workings of the Port as well as the financial importance of our Port of Durban.

The second part of the tour took the team to the naval base and on to the Millennium Tower. Standing at the base of this Durban landmark in itself was awesome, but then being allowed the privilege to ascend the tower right into the control room was absolutely mind-blowing for these juniors.

The view from the Millennium Tower is amazing, the knowledge these young learners gained from the panoramic view will be imprinted on their memories forever. The bird’s eye view enabled  the team to establish the exact layout of Durban harbour. Something that will stand them in good stead in years to come when they have to plan the export or import of cargo from this harbour.

FATS gratefully thanks Transnet for this once in a lifetime opportunity afforded the youngsters who have all chosen the shipping industry as their profession. Now even more proudly so!
